Schumer on the Verge

May 21, 2010

This is must reading from the Washington Post:

Chuck Schumer is on the verge of becoming majority leader of the U.S. Senate.

The writer is Jason Horowitz, who used to be with the NY Observer and who knows Schumer well. Horowitz writes: “During his three-decade legislative career, Schumer, 59, has developed a reputation as a razor-elbowed, shamelessly self-serving, media-addicted political monster. He is also arguably the single most effective lawmaker of his generation.”

The article is full of great quotes, including this one from Al D’Amato: “The Republicans are very fortunate that the (Obama) administration does not listen to Schumer more, because he is smarter than that whole group in his little pinkie.”

We’ve been Schumer students for a long time. We sometimes question his focus, but never his intellect or work ethic. In fact, nobody works harder.
