Levy’s Timely Budget Fix

In coming weeks, NT2 will be analyzing the policy papers and campaign statements of the gubernatorial candidates. Our goal is not to get bogged down in wonkish details, but instead to highlight specific, big-picture ideas that we believe are worthy of consideration. We launch the effort today with an excerpt from Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy’s campaign blueprint. 

Levy makes the following recommendation for ensuring timely budgets: “The state should mirror the system that exists in Suffolk, and other local governments around the state, whereby the executive’s budget is deemed approved by a date certain (in this case April 1st) if the legislature fails to act to modify it by that time…”
