If there was a contest for the dumbest and least professional news article ever written, the Daily News would be a top contender.
At issue is an article that appeared in the News on Saturday under the following headline: “Assembly Speaker Goes on Vacation as State Goes Kerflooey.”
According to this article, Sheldon Silver had “ensconced himself in a posh Westchester hotel as the deadline to approve the state budget came and went in a deserted Albany.” Silver “snarfed omelets and lox” with Mayor Bloomberg and then “stayed out of sight” at the “swank $200 a night Hilton Rye Town…”
It’s hard to know where to begin with this idiotic article.
Maybe it’s words like “kerflooey” and “snarfed.” Maybe it’s the faux outrage at a $200 per night hotel bill. Maybe it’s the notion that one can actually “vacation” in Rye.
Or maybe, just maybe, it’s the complete insensitivity to the fact that Silver, an Orthodox Jew, was observing the Passover at a hotel that specifically caters to those who observe strict Kosher laws.
The most interesting aspect of this article is that it appeared at all. How did the author of the article, Ken Lovett, or the publisher of the newspaper, Mort Zuckerman, observe Pesach?
