Where’s the GOP?!?

March 14, 2010

The Dems have fallen flat on their collective face. They are plagued by scandals.  They’ve accomplished virtually nothing at the state or national levels. And the economy still sucks.

It’s a dream scenario for the GOP, right? Yeah, except for one thing: the Republicans are nowhere to be found. They have second-tier candidates, no money and no message.

NT2, which is strictly non-partisan, is sickened by this situation. Why? Because we need competitive elections in New York! We need real debate! We need to hear competing ideas about governing!

For all these reasons and more, NT2 proposes the following GOP ticket for 2010:

Governor: Rudy Giuliani, former U.S. Attorney and NYC mayor;

Lt. Governor: Joanie Mahoney, Onondaga County Executive;

Comptroller: U.S. Rep. Peter King, former Nassau Co. comptroller;

Attorney General: Michael Garcia, former U.S. Attorney;

US Senator:  Maggie Brooks, Monroe County Executive ( vs. Kirsten Gillibrand);

US Senator: Richard Parsons, former Time Warner/AOL CEO (vs. Chuck Schumer).

Without a doubt, this would be a competitive ticket for the GOP. You can even make the case that some of these individuals are superior to their Democratic counterparts. But State Chair Ed Cox, instead of focusing on ticket building with real Republicans is futzing around with Steve Levy, a Democrat. Why?
